Nitrate-Free Bacon


What is nitrate-free bacon?
Nitrate-free bacon is naturally cured using non synthetic extracts such as spices, sea salt, vegetable oil extracts. Sodium nitrate & potassium nitrate were categorised as carcinogenic in 2015 by WHO (World Health Organisation) – linked to high increases of bowel, colon, and breast cancers. Synthetic nitrates have been used for centuries to give colour (usually a hot pink) & supposedly protect from deadly bacteria. The bacteria side of it has been debunked leaving the main benefit of nitrates being colour.

Our nitrate-free bacon is cured with natural sea salt, brown sugar and black pepper – no synthetic nitrate, additives or preservatives to be seen!

Where is it from?
Our bacon is butchered and made from free-range pork by Steve Hanson, a local family run butcher/farm in Itchingfield (Rectory Barn Farm) who also butchers our venison.
