We work closely all year round with Northiam Dairy in Rye, East Sussex, a 400 acre independent family run farm run by Rupert and his two son’s George and Jack. The cows eat grass from the farm’s pasture in the Summer, and are fed on their own silage in the Winter. The herd will only eat ingredients grown on the farm. Northiam keep a cross breed of Norwegian Red, Flekview, and Black & White, feeling that this gives the best quality milk with a good yield without jeopardising the health of the cow.
The milk is rich and creamy, and tastes exactly like milk should do. It is un-homogenised, which is more nutritious as the good natural fats aren’t broken up into tiny particles. They work with local Sussex dairies alongside their own herd, where the milking parlour is a few metres away from their dairy production unit! At Northiam they aim to produce quality milk from healthy, relaxed, free range, pasture fed cows.
